Candidates qualify for March election

The qualifying period for March elections closed Friday with dozens of local and national candidates signing up to run for a number of local offices, including Monroe mayor, the Democratic and Republican presidential primaries and political committee representatives from the major parties.

Voters go to the polls March 24 in the Louisiana presidential primary. At that time, Ouachita Parish voters will choose their representatives for the local and statewide committees that manage the two major political parties.

At the same time, voters in the city of Monroe will cast ballots for their choice from a field of four men vying to become the next Monroe mayor.
