Sterlington ends year in black The Town of Sterlington will end its 2011 year with a general fund balance of more than half a million dollars.
At its Tuesday night meeting, the Sterlington Town Council approved an amended budget that shows revenues of $835,383 and expenditures of $814,870. The surplus revenue, added to a fund balance of more than $480,000 at the beginning of the year, brings the total balance going into 2012 to almost $502,000.
Sterlington Mayor Vern Breland said several factors played a role in the revenue growth.
"The building permits were almost $6.6 million this year, last year was 4.2," Breland said. "Sales tax revenue is up 31 percent right now over last year." The mayor said he expected that trend to continue. The Town Council also approved the 2012 budget Tuesday. ....For the full story, subscribe to the The Ouachita Citizen's NEW E-Edition! |
