It's almost Christmas, and soon families will gather around laden tables for the traditional holiday meals. But for many people, those tables will be bare.

Hard economic times can mean skimpy fare for those in need. That's where the Food Bank of Northeast Louisiana tries to step in.

The Food Bank's Executive Director Richard King describes the current food security position in this area as "the perfect storm."

The reasons: record poverty rates, high unemployment locally, and government cutbacks on resources at a time when they are most critical.
