Monroe Mayor Jamie Mayo will seek re-election in the March election.

Mayo made that announcement last week at a campaign event at the Civic Center.
"I am running for re-election as mayor of the city of Monroe," Mayo told a crowd of supporters.

A Democrat, Mayo was appointed interim mayor in 2001, following the death of Mayor Melvin Rambin.

A two-term Monroe City Councilman, Mayo served as interim mayor until winning a special election in October 2001 to fill Rambin's unexpired term.
