V-tax refund pending Property owners throughout Ouachita Parish could begin receiving checks in the very near future thanks to a promise parish officials made when voters were asked in 2009 to approve a new property tax to largely underwrite a financial incentives package for V-Vehicle Co.
At its next regular meeting, the Ouachita Parish Police Jury is expected to entertain a move to refund taxes collected to help pay for the $15-million incentives package. The Police Jury is scheduled to meet Monday, Dec. 5. Police Jury President Shane Smiley said the Police Jury is prepared to refund "every last dime" of the $1.4 million in property taxes the parish collected to help finance the incentives package for V-Vehicle.
