Special to The Citizen

On April 16, 1986, I left India, my country of origin, to come to the United States of America.

My Indian government of that time was very strict when it came to foreign exchange and would allow ordinary citizens like me to take only $20 for my personal expenses.

I spent $12 for my English breakfast at Heathrow Airport, U.K. I landed at JFK Airport, New York, with $8 in my pocket to begin my life in the U.S.A.!
