Elections deliver surprises, close calls

Turnout was light as voters went to the polls in a general election held Saturday.
On the ballot, two state House of Representatives races, Ouachita Parish Clerk of Court and Tax Assessor, and a constitutional amendment to ban real estate transaction taxes.

According to complete but unofficial returns posted by the Louisiana Secretary of State's office, just 18 percent of Ouachita Parish's 100,251 eligible voters expressed interest in the election.

Voters delivered decisive victories to candidates for one state House race and the two parish offices while overwhelmingly supporting Constitutional Amendment No. 1.
