Property owners get one tax bill Annual tax notices are set to go out this week to the 71,000 parish property taxpayers.
This year, individuals and businesses that pay property taxes in the incorporated areas of Monroe, West Monroe and Sterlington will notice something different than in previous years.
"The property owners inside the city limits will receive one tax notice for every two notices they received last year," said Rich Bailey, Ouachita Parish Tax Assessor Bailey noted that in previous years, individuals and businesses that owned property in one of the affected municipalities received two notices—one for parish taxes due and one for taxes levied by the municipality.
For example, a person who owns property in Sterlington received one tax notice from Ouachita Parish and a separate tax notice from the town of Sterlington. Last year, the Tax Assessor's office partnered with the town of Sterlington for a pilot program in which the Tax Assessor's office, the Ouachita Parish Sheriff's Office and the town unified the mailing and sent a single bill, which was then collected by the Sheriff's Office for distribution to parish governing bodies and the town of Sterlington. .....For the full story, subscribe to the The Ouachita Citizen's NEW E-Edition! |
