Presentation looks at 'Books of Hours' A special presentation detailing "The Books of Hours" will be presented at 6 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 29, in the Education building at the Biedenharn Museum & Gardens. "Book of Hours," said by some scholars to be 'the best seller of the medieval period,' will be presented using a series of 11 enlarged reproductions of these historic illuminated documents. The program will begin with the Angel's proclamation that Mary will be the Christ child's mother, through the Nativity Story and the Holy Family's flight to Egypt.
"Books of Hours" are wonderful works of art and faith," Calhoun said. "The images that will be displayed during the program are much larger than the actual texts. When you think of how small the pages are in comparison, you realize how difficult it was to achieve such detail. The craftsmanship and artistic skill displayed in these works is truly amazing.
The Biedenharn Museum and Gardens is located at 2000 Riverside Drive in Monroe, Louisiana's Garden District. No reservations are necessary and admission for this event is free. The Education Building is located behind the Coke Museum on Speed Street.
