posted E-mail Story E-mail Story | Print Story Print Story
Monroe attorney Marcus Hunter turned back retired educator Billye Burns by three votes Saturday in the House District 17 run-off.

According to complete but official returns from the Secretary of State's office, Hunter recorded 1,984 votes, or 50.04 percent, to 1,981 votes, or 49.96 percent, for Burns.

District 17 is majority-minority district based in southern Monroe. The district also includes most of the incorporated areas of West Monroe.

Rep. Rosalind Jones, D-Monroe, has represented District 17 since 2008. She chose not to seek re-election in the 2011 election cycle.

Like Burns, Hunter is a Democrat. He also is the son of former Rep. Willie Hunter.
