Mausoleum marks cemetery renaissance

An area cemetery that was once at the heart of lawsuits and disputes has made a complete turnaround under the guidance of the Kilpatrick family.

Members of the Kilpatrick family and the staff of their funeral homes joined members of the community Tuesday at Kilpatrick's Serenity Gardens in western Ouachita Parish.

The group was on hand to celebrate the groundbreaking of a new mausoleum, which will be built on the site.

"It was a burden on our family's heart and staff to get the cemetery as quickly as we could, into a position where it was a place of true serenity for families," said Laura Kilpatrick Marchelos.
