Warhawks victim of unlucky bounce

For the second straight week, the University of Louisiana-Monroe dropped a game in the final seconds.

Aided by a lucky bounce on an on-side kick, UL-Lafayette rallied from an 11-point deficit with two touchdowns over a 59-second span to stun ULM, 36-35, Saturday evening in Sun Belt Conference action at Cajun Field.

The Warhawks took a 35-24 lead on Jyruss Edwards' third rushing touchdown and fourth overall touchdown of the game with 3:08 to play in the game.

ULL (8-2, 6-1 Sun Belt) started the ensuing drive on the ULM 48-yard line after a late hit by the Warhawks out of bounds. The ULM defense held on the first two plays, but Blaine Gautier completed a 23-yard pass to Harry Peoples on third down to give the Cajuns first down on the ULM 23-yard line. Gautier completed another third down pass, this time a 16-yard strike to Darryl Surgent, for the touchdown with 2:05 to play.
