Early voting surprisingly brisk

Early voting for the Nov. 19 general election has been more brisk than expected, according to the Ouachita Parish Registrar of Voters.

With no state-wide elections on the ballot to drive voter interest, Registrar Christa Medaries had predicted a lower turnout.

"I don't think people will get out for this one as much," Medaries said before early voting began on Saturday.

As of Wednesday afternoon, though, some 1,846 voters had cast early ballots for the Nov. 19 election.
