OPPJ approves bid for new classrooms

The planned construction of new classrooms at Green Oaks Juvenile Detention Center is one step closer to becoming a reality after the Ouachita Parish Police Jury accepted the lowest construction bid.

At its regular meeting Monday, the Police Jury unanimously approved a low bid of $538,000 submitted by Ryan Watson Construction.

Green Oaks director Mike Rhodes said the new classrooms couldn't be built soon enough.
"The two classrooms we have are at capacity," Rhodes said. "We've just run out of space in those two classrooms."

Plans call for the addition of four classrooms at the juvenile detention facility. Rhodes said two of the classrooms will be used for male classes and one will be used for female classes. The fourth classroom will be used for a technology class.
