District champs crowned If defense wins championships, West Monroe appears to be in good shape heading into the final game of the season.
The Rebels' stingy defense limited the national power Cocoa Tigers' offense to a season low 106 yards Saturday night in their 21-6 victory at Rebel Stadium. The Tigers did not start picking up positive yardage until the 10-minute mark in the third quarter.
"Our defense held their athletes to 1.6 yards a play, while our offense ran 54 plays for 337 yards which is a 6.2 yards a play," West Monroe head coach Don Shows said. "Now, that is pretty good football."
The Rebels went into the game knowing that they needed to control the ball. While no Rebel running back went over 100 yards, all four backs contributed to the victory. Those backs were Bubba Reeves (15 carries for 82 yards and one touchdown), Steven Jones (14 carries for 67 yards), Connor Osborne (nine carries for 56 yards) and Jacob Tyson (three carries for 48 yards and one touchdown). ......For the full story, subscribe to the The Ouachita Citizen's NEW E-Edition! |
