Museum to host veterans program Chennault Aviation and Military Museum and the Louisiana Military Museum of Ruston will honor U.S. veterans with a program and activities from 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 5, on the grounds of the Chennault Museum in Monroe.
Ernie Stevens, director of the Louisiana Museum, will bring several military artifacts from the collection in Ruston – most notably an authentic Japanese cannon. Re-enactors representing both Civil War and World War II soldiers will demonstrate usage of period firearms.
West Monroe High School ROTC will present the colors and a patriotic ceremony honoring heroes who gave all.
Dr. John Cooksey of Monroe, a veteran and former U.S. congressman, speaks at 11 a.m. The Lisa Lee Trio will provide the musical entertainment.
Refreshments include hot dogs.
Nell Calloway, director of the Chennault, invites the community to join in honoring the sacrifices the U.S. military has made for the freedom of all Americans.
The Chennault is open 9 a.m.-4 p.m. Tuesday-Saturday and operates through the support of the Louisiana Secretary of State and the Friends of Chennault Museum.
