Robinson earns Police Jury seat

The Ouachita Parish Police Jury will undergo a bit of a change after voters turned out one of the police jurors in the Oct. 22 primary election.

Political newcomer Scotty Robinson defeated incumbent Charles Jackson 55 percent to 45 percent to take the District A seat. Jackson was first elected to the Police Jury in 2007.
Robinson said he thought the deciding factor in the election was the Police Jury's attempt earlier this year to levy higher taxes to fund Ouachita Correctional Center.

"I knocked on doors every day," said Robinson. "That was a huge issue. They do not want more taxes."

Robinson also said District A voters turned out in greater numbers than in other areas of the parish, with just over 40 percent of the district's eligible voters going to the polls.
Parish-wide, voter turnout was lower, coming in at just 33 percent.
