Candidates tout ideas to improve office

Technology will play a key role in the future of the Ouachita Parish Tax Assessor's office.
What that role is, though, will largely depend on who voters choose to replace Rich Bailey, who chose not to seek re-election.

Former Ouachita Parish Police Juror Paul Hargrove said he wants to implement electronic filing, or e-filing, for tax reports.

"You can file your federal and state income tax online," said Hargrove, a West Monroe Republican. "You can even file your state and local sales tax online. But you can't file your property taxes."

Hargrove said that establishing an e-filing system for property tax reports, extensions and challenges would improve efficiency at the Tax Assessor's office and would improve customer service for taxpayers.
