What a glorious fall day, Saturday, Oct. 8 ... sunny, breezy, and we have lots of good local stories to share with you! The day was huge with Oklahoma winning big over Texas and enough to move them to No. 1 in the polls. LSU caught the Florida Gators, and Bama won soundly again so we have three powers who are undefeated. Tech managed a good win! Go Neville Tigers! The Saints are 4-1.

Word from West Monroe was the beautiful Taylor Guillot is homecoming queen with Rebecca Dupuy, maid of honor. Becca and Deano Casola were voted Miss and Mr. West Monroe High. See photos of these special young people. Taylor Guillot is among family members from three decades who served their school as homecoming queens: Jackie Anderson Guillot, Michelle Lewis Guillot. Another favorite is West Monroe's Jessica Gilbert, former homecoming queen, and the new Miss ULM!

Another Monroe connection, Lori Rubin Spires' daughter, Leslie Spires was the homecoming queen at Prairie View Academy. That is Sam Rubin's granddaughter. Sam has a talented grandson who flies his own plane and flew the LSU bunch home a couple of weekends ago. Grandson Mark Kent was among the group. We were concerned about the kids' safety. Sam Rubin had driven to Mer Rouge to check out the "cost" of the trip!

Martha Jane Anderson retired from University of Louisiana-Monroe after 35 years of service as Assistant Dean of Students and SGA Advisor. She is married to Patrick H. Anderson Sr., has two children, and four grandchildren.
