Town celebrates 50th anniversary
The Town of Sterlington threw herself a birthday party.
More than 1,500 people turned out to celebrate the town's 50th anniversary on Saturday.
Sterlington Mayor Vern Breland said the event was an opportunity to highlight some of the good things happening in the community.
"In the big scheme of things, 50 years is just a blink," Breland said. "But the town of Sterlington has made some pretty great progress in that time."
Sterlington is situated in the fastest growing area of Ouachita Parish.
