One of the twin cities' most decorated former college athletes has returned to the area — in a coaching role at West Monroe High School.

Former University of Louisiana-Monroe quarterback Stan Humphries has taken a volunteer coaching position on the girls basketball staff with the Rebels.

"Stan and I have known each other for a long time," West Monroe head coach John Green said. "We both went to Southwood High School in Shreveport. He was a bit older than me. We have spent a good 10 years in coaching girls basketball. Through that we have kept in touch. He called and said he was moving back this way and wanted to see what we had going on."
