The Ouachita Parish Police Jury tackled new budgets governing two of its most difficult funds earlier this week.

Police jurors entertained the proposed 2012 budgets for Green Oaks Detention Center and the Ouachita Parish Public Library. The two budgets represent the expenditure of more than $10 million annually in Police Jury funds.

Police Juror Charles Jackson, chairman of the Police Jury's finance committee, said the 2012 proposed budget for Green Oaks Detention Center included planned deficit spending.
The detention center had amassed a surplus fund balance of more than $4 million in recent years.
