Facing a court battle over whether he was eligible to stand as a candidate, Monroe businessman Harris Brown withdrew from the Senate District 35 race Friday.

Brown was sued in 4th Judicial District Court Thursday in separate filings by the state Attorney General's office and Sen. Bob Kostelka, who currently holds the District 35 seat.

The lawsuits challenged whether Brown met the residency requirements to run for the District 35 seat because, until May of this year, Brown lived outside the district.

The flap over where Brown lived began two weeks ago when a District 35 voter filed a complaint with 4th Judicial District Attorney Jerry Jones.
