Story Archives: Church hosts 170th homecoming

Church hosts 170th homecoming
posted E-mail Story E-mail Story | Print Story Print Story
Hickory Springs Church in Jackson Parish will hold its annual homecoming on Sunday, Oct. 7.

This marks the 170th anniversary of the founding of the church. The original log building was built in 1841 and also served as a school. The current building, which was erected around 1902 — and adjoining graves which date back to the 1800s — are maintained solely by donations and the work of a handful of descendants of pioneer families.

Old fashioned gospel singing will be held at 10: 30 a.m. Time will be set aside to honor the memories of loved one who have passed away and for those who wish to relate favorite memories of this historic place and surrounding area.

Bring a covered dish lunch to share and enjoy reminiscing about old times.

The church is located approximately 20 miles west of Columbia off La. Hwy. 4 on Hickory Springs Road/Jackson Parish Road 379.
