OIB awarded $17.9 million to lend to small businesses

Ouachita Independent Bank is about $18 million stronger thanks to a U.S. Treasury program aimed at aiding small businesses hit by the struggling economy.

The money was courtesy of the Small Business Lending Fund, which was established as part of the Small Business Jobs Act.

The U.S. Treasury Department announced last week OIB had been awarded the money to lend to small businesses.
