The City of West Monroe will ask the state Bond Commission next month for approval to issue up to $4 million in bonded indebtedness to help pay for a laundry list of capital improvement projects.

Mayor Dave Norris described the capital improvement projects as "long-term projects that we need to do now."

Norris made the remark Tuesday during the West Monroe Board of Aldermen's regular meeting. The board voted unanimously to seek the Bond Commission's blessing on borrowing as much as $4 million through a bond sale.

The city will spend some $11.5 million on the capital improvement campaign. Grant funding from the state and federal governments will pay for roughly one-half of the $11.5 million in projects.
