Removing hundreds of tires near J.S. Clark Cemetery could be more costly than the Ouachita Parish Police Jury anticipated.

According to Ouachita Parish Sheriff's Cpl. Wayne Heckford, who serves as the parish's code enforcement officer, the cost of removing some specialized tires from this area could exceed $10,000.

Several months ago, Richwood Mayor Steve Hunter asked the Police Jury for assistance in removing tires around J.S. Clark Cemetery.

He said the tires obstructed the view on the north side of the cemetery. He also said the tires posed health hazards because mosquitoes were rampant there.
