Hope carries young athlete

I do not know if aging has anything to do with it or not, but it seems as if every time that I read something or watch something with any emotional content, I tear up.

As I watched the story of Jason McElwain, tears began falling from my eyes as I witnessed a performance that was so electrifying that the experience seemed surreal. It was if I were viewing a movie that had been taken from a script that had been written for an incredible ending to a make-believe story.

Jason McElwain was a senior at Athena High School. He had not been able to make the basketball team so the coach asked him to be the team's manager. Jason did whatever the team needed, from passing out water to passing basketballs in drills. His very presence was an encouragement to his teammates.
