OPPJ sits tight for Next Two years after Ouachita Parish voters approved a 1.8-mill property tax for the Next Autoworks project, the Ouachita Parish Police Jury continues to maintain a wait-and-see approach on refunding the property taxes.
The Police Jury collected the 1.8-mill property tax for the proposed Next Autoworks facility in 2009, but decided last year not to assess the property tax. The Police Jury also is moving toward not levying the tax again this year.
Roughly $1.45 million was collected in 2009 for the Next Autoworks project, which has been delayed while Next Autoworks waits for the U.S. Department of Energy to decide on a proposed $321 million loan for the start-up company.
The 1.8-mill property tax was levied to help finance a $15 million incentives package local entities pledged to help lure Next Autoworks (formerly V-Vehicle Co.) to Ouachita Parish.
