Massey enters race for Tax Assessor

Joanna Massey, chief deputy tax assessor for Ouachita Parish, recently announced her candidacy to succeed retiring Tax Assessor Rich Bailey.

Massey, a certified deputy assessor, has served as chief deputy assessor since 1986. She first joined the office staff in 1978 as bookkeeper under Tax Assessor Laverne Lutz, whose chief deputy at the time was Bailey.

Before her elevation to the post of chief deputy, Massey earned a bachelor degree in business administration at the University of Louisiana-Monroe.

She also is a licensed real estate broker and has maintained her license by taking all required continuing education courses each year.
