Waine Self and Rev. James Gardner officiating. Interment followed at Antioch Methodist Cemetery in Eros.

Yeager was born March 6, 1928 in Eros, to the union of Luther Eugene and Laura Isabell Burson Yeager. He passed from this life to enter his heavenly rest Aug. 15, following a lengthy battle with lung cancer. Through it all he never lost his sense of humor, visitors usually leaving with a smile.

He was preceded in death by his first wife, Hilda Bunn Yeager; baby daughter, Luann; his parents, three sisters and three brothers.

He is survived by his wife, Mary; son, Randy; daughter, Laurie and husband Mike; grandson, Samuel; brother, Calton and wife Martha; his second family Jeff, Donna, Brett, Brittani, Morgan, Michaela, Kaitlyn Cloyd and Brycen Hollis; several nieces and nephews.
Yeager graduated from Eros High School in1947 where he played basketball and baseball. During his high school years he worked as a rural ice delivery man in Jackson and Ouachita parishes. He served in the Louisiana National Guard Company I. He was ordained deacon in Edgewood Baptist Church in 1957. He taught a men's Sunday School class from the early 1960's until 2010. He was an active and current member of Highland Baptist Church. His civic activities included the Optimist Club, Eros Masonic Lodge No. 295 where he served as Master and District Deputy Grand Master, Barak Shrine Club and Monroe Scottish Rites.

Yeager began serving on the West Monroe City Council in 1967 and continued serving faithfully as long as his health allowed, rarely missing a meeting.

During his years of employment, he worked at Ouachita National Bank for two years, First National Bank for 15 years and Central Bank for 20 years until his retirement in 1989. He then went to work for Kilpatrick Funeral Home and was there until earlier this year.

Nephews served as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers were members of his Sunday School class, his Masonic brothers and members of the West Monroe City Council.

In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made to The Gideons International McClendon Baptist Church Children's Building Fund or the charity of choice.

Special thanks to the wonderful caregivers who have taken care of "Mr. Sam" during the past two and a half years: Dr. Coy Gammage, Sheila McClendon, Todd Hilton at Oncology Associates; Annette Picard, Rev. Don Banks, Barbara Johnson, Willie Mae Sandifer and Dana Faston of Hospice Family Alliance.
