Alderman Yeager succumbs to cancer

West Monroe Alderman L.O. "Sam" Yeager died early Monday following a lengthy battle with cancer.

He was 83.

Under the direction of Kilpatrick's Funeral Home in West Monroe, services for Yeager will be held Wednesday at Kilpatrick's beginning at 10 a.m. Interment will follow at Antioch Methodist Cemetery in Eros.

Visitation will be held Tuesday from 5 p.m. – 8 p.m. at Kilpatrick's.

Yeager was appointed to the West Monroe Board of Aldermen in 1967 when Bert Hatten served as mayor. Yeager was appointed to succeed Alderman Roland Mix, who died in office.

Yeager was elected in a special election in 1968 to fill Mix's unexpired term. In 1970, Yeager was elected to his first full term in office.

He held his seat on the Board of Aldermen until his death.
