WM mulls weather sirens

The West Monroe Board of Aldermen may consider a $130,000 purchase to install five severe weather early warning sirens within the city limits.

During the pre-council meeting on Tuesday, the Board of Aldermen heard from representatives with Federal Signal Safety and Security Systems, based in Oklahoma.

Mayor Dave Norris said the city has been considering installing a severe weather early warning system in light of recent tornado devastation in the Midwest.

"In April, there was a tornado on the ground out near Cheniere Drew, and we don't have any way to alert people, so I wanted us to look into the possibility of a warning system that could be activated if we got the call," Norris said.
