LDWF requests Cheniere Lake draw-down

Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries has requested a draw-down of Cheniere Lake by three feet through January to improve the habitat for spawning fish.

The department recently requested the draw-down through correspondence with the Ouachita Parish Police Jury.

The Police Jury has not acted on the matter. However, around Labor Day each year, the Police Jury typically approves the annual draw-down.

The department has overseen draw-downs of Cheniere Lake each year since 1996.
Ryan Daniel, an inland fisheries biologist manager with Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries Monroe office, said the three-foot draw-downs are normally initiated the day after Labor Day and extend through Jan. 15 each year.
