In an effort to combat impaired driving in the area, Louisiana State Police Troop F and the University of Louisiana at Monroe Police Department will team up with additional law enforcement agencies to conduct sobriety checkpoints this week.

On Thursday, August 4, 2011 and Friday, August 5, 2011, sobriety checkpoints will be conducted in Ouachita Parish from approximately 8 p.m.-4 a.m. Agencies participating in the checkpoints include West Monroe, Monroe and ULM Police Departments; and the Louisiana State Police.

Every year on the highways across the state of Louisiana, numerous people are killed or injured by impaired drivers. Sobriety checkpoints are an effective enforcement tool, serving as a deterrent to impaired and drunken driving.
