The U.S. Department of Justice announced earlier this week it approved Louisiana's redistricting plans for the state's six congressional districts as well as Public Service Commission districts.

The Department of Justice previously approved the redistricting plans for the state
House of Representatives and Senate.

Sen. Bob Kostelka, RMonroe, said this year marked the first time Louisiana's redistricting plans were approved on the first submission to the Justice Department. In prior years following the Census count, lawsuits were filed and officials were forced to revamp original congressional and state redistricting plans to appease Justice.
