One local businessman believes Monroe isn't developing its riverfront along the Ouachita to its fullest potential.

The businessman, Matt Sanderson, asked Monroe officials Tuesday night to look at what fully developed riverfront areas did for cities such as Lake Charles, New Orleans and Shreveport. Sanderson delivered his remarks to the Monroe City Council during its regular meeting.

Sanderson is one of several local developers who have taken an interest in restoring Monroe's historic downtown area, including the city's riverfront, in hopes of bringing the area back to life and spurring more economic development there.
