Free workshop focuses on reverse mortgages

Carolyn Johnson, a reverse mortgage specialist with Allied Home Mortgage, will present two workshops to area seniors.

Sessions are set for 9:30 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 2, at the Ouachita Council on Aging, 2407 Ferrand in Monroe; and at 9:30 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 9, at the West Ouachita Senior Center, 1800 North 7th St. in West Monroe.

Johnson's presentations will be entitled "The Truth About Reverse Mortgages" and information shared will include the following: No income or credit requirements, it will not impact Social Security or Medicare, and you will still own your home and it can be passed to your children. Proceeds are tax free and can be used as you see fit. Repairs and updates may be made to the home and hire in-home health care or medical expenses may be paid with proceeds. You must be 62+ and own your home.
