District 14 rooted in North Monroe

Editor's Note: This is the second in a series of articles showcasing the changes in state legislative district lines as this fall's elections near. The Legislature tackled redistricting legislative districts in a special legislative session earlier this year. Congressional and legislative district lines were redrawn to reflect population changes revealed in the 2010 Census.

One northeastern Louisiana legislative district that incurred some of the biggest changes during a special session on redistricting earlier this year was House District 14.

Before redistricting, District 14, currently represented by Rep. Sam Little, was predominately based in Morehouse Parish. The district also took in parts of East Carroll and West Carroll parishes as well as some of Ouachita Parish near Sterlington and the Swartz community.

Thanks to redistricting, District 14 now encompasses a larger area of Ouachita Parish, including much of the area Rep. Kay Katz represented over the past decade. Katz, who is term-limited and cannot seek re-election this fall, represents District 16.
