Lawmakers honored at luncheon Local legislators breathed a collective sigh of relief Tuesday as they discussed the special session on redistricting and the regular legislative session where they dealt with a $1.6-billion funding shortfall.
The Monroe Chamber of Commerce held its annual legislative appreciation luncheon at the University of Louisiana-Monroe's Fant-Ewing Coliseum.
For some local legislators, it marked the last time they would address the business community as members of the Legislature.
Rep. Kay Katz, R-Monroe, who is term-limited, and Rep. Noble Ellington, R-Winnsboro, who opted not to seek re-election, received standing ovations for their years of public service.
