Jurors to consider roadside animal sale ban

The Ouachita Parish Police Jury next week will consider an ordinance banning roadside animal sales in the unincorporated areas of the parish.

An ordinance was introduced last week during the Police Jury's regular meeting to prohibit roadside animal sales in the unincorporated areas of the parish.

During the recent regular legislative session, the Legislature approved legislation to allow the Police Jury to enact an ordinance to prohibit this activity. The parish requested the Legislature entertain legislation to give the Police Jury this authority after it was determined earlier this year the parish had no legal authority to regulate roadside animal sales.

Dozens of local animal rights supporters lobbied the Police Jury earlier this year to request the Police Jury ban roadside animal sales. Local animal rights supporters also lobbied the Legislature to pass legislation to ban roadside animal sales in Ouachita Parish.
