Mayo focuses on new arena

The city of Monroe plans to accept proposals this summer for an economic feasibility study for a proposed Monroe Civic Center indoor sports arena.

Monroe Jamie Mayo told The Ouachita Citizen in January the project was one the city wanted to focus on during 2011.

He said in order for the city of Monroe to attract top-level entertainment, the city needed an arena that sits 10,000 to 14,000 people.

During its regular meeting last week, the City Council adopted a resolution requesting proposals from qualified professionals to "study, plan, design and make proposals" for the construction of an indoor sports arena.
