|Hilburn proposes $2M weather alert system|
The Ouachita Parish Police Jury is considering a $2-million project to install a severe weather alert system throughout the parish.
Ouachita Parish Homeland Security director Tracy Hilburn discussed the project with police jurors Tuesday during their regular meeting.
Hilburn has contacted several companies about the project, which calls for 60 towers to be placed throughout Ouachita Parish to provide an early alert warning of severe weather.
The alert system is comprised of a bullhorn that sits on a 40-foot telephone pole. The bullhorn has a 2.2 mile radius, and it would rotate 360 degrees and sound off to alert residents of severe weather.
