Parish school system to renovate bus barn

Ouachita Parish Schools is set to spend the first portion of proceeds yielded from the sale of up to $19.3 million in general obligation bonds eastern Ouachita voters approved in April.

According to Ken Slusher, safety and construction coordinator at Ouachita Parish Schools, the parish school system will renovate the bus barn located off Kansas Lane in Selman Field to make it more modernized.

"We're completely renovating it, and we're going to build a new building right beside it with a teacher's lounge and storage," Slusher said. "We'll also put in a new oil-changing pit and a new wash rack."

He said the existing bus barn was built several decades ago and features less modernized equipment, which results in an extended period of time to work on buses.
