MPD rolls out new community program

The Monroe Police Department has implemented a new community policing program to help solve and thwart crime within the city limits of Monroe.

According to Monroe Police Chief Quentin Holmes, the new program features more of a dual purpose.

"Previously community police simply patrolled certain areas of the city and worked those areas just like regular patrol officers," Holmes said.

"It will be a little bit different than that this time around," he said. "They'll have that responsibility as well, but they'll also help bridge the gap between the community and the City Council by assigning one community police person to each council member."
