Plaquemines Parish President Billy Nungesser says he's ready to roll up his sleeves and do what's needed to bring jobs, build infrastructure and increase tourism in Louisiana as the state's next lieutenant governor.

Nungesser's campaign for lieutenant governor rolled into Monroe Friday, June 24, where he met with a number of local supporters at Sage Restaurant.

He told The Ouachita Citizen that several people approached him to run for lieutenant governor in light of how he handled Plaquemines Parish's response to last year's Deep Horizon oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico.

"I wouldn't be here if it wasn't for the oil spill … for the publicity and the exposure I got for what we did during the oil spill," said Nungesser, a Republican.
