City plans sidewalk, drainage upgrades

The city of West Monroe is moving forward with its project to build sidewalks along Linderman Street and South 8th Street to improve accessibility to the West Monroe Community Center and Riverbend Elementary School.

The city recently signed off on an agreement with the Department of Transportation and Development for the sidewalk project.

Besides improving accessibility to the elementary school and community center, the project also will tackle drainage issues in that area, according to West Monroe Mayor Dave Norris.
Total cost of the sidewalk and drainage projects is roughly $800,000 with funding coming from a grant with the state Office of Community Development's Disaster Recovery Unit.
