Schleuter enters sheriff's race

Former Monroe Police Chief Ron Schleuter late last week formally announced his candidacy for Ouachita Parish Sheriff.

He joined Jay Russell, chief deputy at the Ouachita Parish Sheriff's Office; Larry LaBorde, former police chief at West Monroe Police Department; Cameron Douglas, retired State Police sergeant; and Joe Brady, a West Monroe businessman; in the campaign to succeed Sheriff Royce Toney.

Schleuter officially announced his candidacy Friday, June 10, during a news conference at The Atrium in Monroe.

He was joined by a handful of supporters.
