As the heat bears down with the official start of summer next week, the Ouachita Parish Sheriff's Office has already noticed an increase in criminal activity.

OPSO Maj. James Purvis said crime typically spikes every summer when school lets out for the summer break.

The summer months mean there are more teens on the streets unsupervised, and often that leads to issues that local law enforcement agencies must address.
