Nomination deadline nears The Twin City Mayors' Committee on Disabilities is seeking nominees for the 2011 Awards Dinner on Tuesday, July 19. These eight awards go to people, media, organizations and employers that have done the most for the welfare of the disabled citizens in our community.
The Mayor's Award is given to a person with a disability and is based on accomplishments and achievements since the onset of the disability. The Media Award must be an individual or group in print, radio, or television media who strives to provide coverage of issues relating to disabilities and has ensured the coverage is done in a professional and sensitive manner.
The Family Award nominee must be a family with at least one member who is disabled. The family continually assists and encourages the family member with the disability to reach their full potential. The family is able to be "mainstreamed" into the community with no undue emphasis on the disability. The Distinguished Service Award nominee must be an individual who serves in a service profession and strives to reach a standard above the expected "norm" in their attempts to assist community members with disabilities reach their full potential. .....For the full story, subscribe to the The Ouachita Citizen's NEW E-Edition! |
